Types of Facial Injuries

Facial injuries can range in complexity and cause. Some common types of facial injuries include:

2. Lacerations inside the mouth
3. Avulsed (knocked-out) teeth
4. Fractured facial bones (nose, cheek, eye socket)
5. Fractured upper and/or lower jaws

Treating Facial Trauma

When you first come to our practice for facial trauma treatment, we will likely begin by taking 3D scans to assess the extent of the injury. Dr. Holtzen will then design a personalized care plan to address the injury and restore both function and aesthetics to the facial structures. We offer various anesthesia options to ensure your comfort during the procedure.

For soft tissue injuries, sutures may be used to close the wounds. Whenever possible, sutures are placed from within the mouth or in less noticeable areas to minimize visible scarring. Bone injuries often require surgery, during which plates or screws are used to reposition and stabilize the facial or jaw bones. This approach may avoid the need to wire the jaws shut, allowing for a more comfortable healing process.
